Inadequate ICS Communication

The Washington, DC, Metro case[7] demonstrates that ICS cyber incidents extend beyond electric transmission and distribution and process control systems. DC Metro’s automation systems for controlling trains includes trackside sensors, RTUs, and SCADA systems. This case demonstrates a very important issue that has been part of many of the various case histories and demonstrations: the operator’s dependence on automation, even when the automation or displays are inaccurate.
