The PMBOK® Guide defines quality assurance as “...the application of planned, systematic quality activities to ensure that the project will employ all processes needed to meet requirements.”1 This logically follows quality planning, as the processes employed must satisfy the standards that were identified during the quality planning process.

“Quality assurance” can be a somewhat troublesome term. Often, “quality assurance” is used in conversation and writing when the term “quality control” would be more accurate and more properly applied.
