Chapter 3Project Planning

We push planning in a big way at Olive. I have seen companies that treat it more as an overhead obligation, something to get through to get to the work. We see it much more as the beginning of the real work, and so we strive to take as much time as we can to plan and we like to involve our clients as much as we can in planning activities. In this industry, it’s a well-known maxim that the more time you spend on design, the less time you’ll spend on programming. It’s the same with projects. Plan them well up front and you’ll find that major realignments and unattended misdirections are usually avoided.Kricket Ichwantoro, President, Olive, LLCProcess improvement consulting organization
