analogous estimating This technique uses the actual duration of a similar, completed activity to determine the duration of the current activity. This is also called top-down estimating and uses both expert judgment and historical information.

assumptions Events or actions believed to be true. Project assumptions should always be documented.

benchmarking Compares previous similar activities to the current project activities to provide a standard against which to measure performance.

bottom-up estimating Establishes individual estimates for each task and adds them all together to determine a total estimate for the project.
