8.4 The organizational framework

In order to manage a project successfully it is essential that a formal management structure is in place.

  • Named personnel should be allocated to the roles — but several people may share a role and a single person may have more than one role.

  • Roles must carry appropriate authority and responsibility.

  • Individuals must carry out their roles correctly and willingly and must clearly understand their objectives. Status within the organization is not sufficient qualification. A period of relevant training may well be appropriate.
