Some lessons I have learned about creating a project plan for course development projects are as follows:

  • It always takes longer than you think it will. This is generally a result of events not immediately under your control, including business politics, other people, and surprises such as weather, illness, and even promotions. These glitches will not take long to emerge, and may hit the day you start. Don’t get discouraged—plan for them. The risk assessment process (see chapter 2) should help you deal realistically with changes and surprises. They will happen.

  • It is tempting, no matter how experienced you are, to skip the planning step. In fact, the more experienced you are, the more tempted you will be to skip it. Don’t. ...
