Documenting Scope
As you may already know, “scope creep” is the number one killer of projects. No matter what a project manager does, the business needs for the learning event will change over the duration of the project. The longer the project, the more likely the needs will change drastically. Scope cannot be frozen any more than business change can be eliminated. The best tactic for an effective project manager is to manage the scope so that change is understood by all.
At the start of the project, the project manager, the customer, and any other project team members must document the scope as they understand it. The more stakeholders who contribute to creating this document, the more unmistakable it will be to everyone when the scope changes ...
