Abstract

In many industries the concentration of particulate matter is important for quality control and process optimization. Particulate matter can adhere to heat transfer surfaces such as those found in heat exchangers, cooling ducts and radiators and interfere with the rate of heat exchange. In cooling towers and many municipal applications, suspended solids can shield microorganisms or create a disinfection demand that interferes with effective disinfection.
