Designing the Game

The web game in this chapter is an example of a case where you can’t use Pure Data directly, and need to export sounds instead. For that purpose, really any game will work, such as tic-tac-toe or a jewel-based puzzle game. But we want something a little more audibly interesting; something to give us a sound-design challenge. We’ll build a patch for a sci-fi space game because that’s way more fun than tic-tac-toe. Let’s have a look at the game and an interesting design constraint it has that will make building our Pd patch that much more fun: we’ll make this game sound like those ’80s console games you may have grown up playing.
