Chapter 7Sound in the User Experience

Now we’ll take a quick break from building sounds to talk about an important part of sound design: the user experience (often called UX). Thus far we’ve been building patches with the sole intent of creating a realistic effect. Essentially we’ve been answering the question “Does this effect sound good?” without posing the question “Are we building an experience that sounds good?”

In the next two chapters we’ll build projects with the goal of adding sounds to a web project and native mobile projects. In this chapter we’ll take some time to talk about what makes the audible part of an experience worthwhile to the user.
