Foreword

I've been working with Perl and Microsoft technologies since 1994, when I helped port Perl 5 to the Windows platform. Microsoft funded this effort and subsequent projects: Perl for ISAPI which allows Perl to run in-process to IIS; and PerlScript, an ActiveScripting engine for Perl.

These projects paved the way for over a million programmers to easily use Perl on the Windows platform. Growing interest in Perl led to ActiveState's founding in 1997, with the goal of creating solutions that enable customers to leverage their Perl expertise.

With ActiveState, I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to make it easier for programmers to use Perl with new technologies and to bridge the gap between the open source community and Microsoft technologies. ...
