SQL Server Editions and SharePoint Version Requirements

Prior to SQL Server 2012, customers who were interested in the BI capabilities of SQL Server really had to purchase the Enterprise edition of the product. Although SQL Server Standard edition includes SSAS, several of its features are unavailable in that edition. This had meant top-of-the-line licenses were needed for BI work, even for customers who were still getting their toes wet with it. But SQL Server 2012 introduces a new BI edition, with prices and features that fall between Standard and Enterprise.
