Aggregations

Aggregation designs specify which precalculated aggregations are stored in your cube. In Analysis Services 2005, there were two types of aggregation designs: algorithmic and usage-based, both of which were created on the Partitions tab of the cube designer. In Analysis Services 2008, configuration of aggregations has changed. First, aggregation designs are now created on the new Aggregations tab. Second, in addition to algorithmic and usage-based aggregation designs, it is now possible to create aggregations manually or to modify designs that are algorithmic or usage-based. We’ll briefly describe the creation of each of these three types here. To get started, click the Aggregations tab of the cube designer for our Sales cube.
