Summary

We have taken a fairly extensive tour of the xml data type and its data manipulation mechanisms, XQuery and XML DML. As you have seen, SQL Server 2008 provides a rich feature set of XML technologies. At times, you will want to store XML in the database, and the xml data type allows you to work with XML natively—a vast improvement over earlier versions of SQL Server. Armed with this data type and the ability to query it using XQuery, you can fully exploit the power of XML inside your SQL Server 2008 databases and build smart, XML-aware applications.
