You may be using a Windows machine, a Mac OS X machine, or some other type of operating system. In all cases, you need to install the development software that will help you type, build, debug, and execute your C++ programs.
This appendix shows you how to install software for Windows and Mac OS X platforms. If you have another platform, you need to do a search online for a C++ compiler that will work for your system. It is not difficult to find software for other systems, such as Linux.
