C# and Standardization

Work on a C# standard began under the auspices of ECMA in September 2000. In addition to Microsoft, there was active involvement by Intel, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Fujitsu, Plum Hall, and others. The technical work on C# and on CLI (a subset of the CLR) was completed in October 2001.

In December 2001, the ECMA general assembly voted to approve standards for C# and CLI. It also voted to start a fast-track process to get ISO approval for the standards.
