The Microsoft Unified Communications (UC) platform, which includes Microsoft Exchange Server and Office Communications Server, provides a unified infrastructure for communication and offers a single-user experience for e-mail, instant messaging (IM), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), application sharing, audio/video (A/V), and Web conferencing. This user experience is centered on a single identity (provided by Active Directory Domain Services) combined with an inbox (managed by Exchange Server) and enhanced presence (provided by Office Communications Server).
