Summary

In this chapter, you learned about Adobe AIR, a technology that allows you to leverage your Flex knowledge to create applications that run on the desktop. These applications have access to all the features of standard Flex applications, but they also have additional features. For example, as you learned in this chapter, AIR applications can access the local filesystem, utilize local databases, manage system-level copy and paste and drag and drop operations, and load and render HTML content.

In this chapter, you also learned how to build and deploy AIR applications. Using what you’ve learned in this chapter, you can start building applications for the desktop. This opens new possibilities for you as a Flex developer because you can now build applications that target both the Web and the desktop. This chapter is necessarily limited to being an introduction and overview of what is possible with AIR. We set out to provide you with the basics to set a foundation for building AIR applications. If you are interested in learning more, you can continue your study using the online AIR documentation (http://adobe.com/go/airdocs).
