Summary

In this chapter, we looked at the three basic ways in which you can enable data communication that occurs entirely on the client. These mechanisms enable different types of behavior:

  • Local connections allow communication between two or more .swf files running on the same computer.

  • Local shared objects allow persistent data storage and retrieval on the client computer.

  • ExternalInterface allows Flash and Flex applications to communicate with the application that hosts Flash Player.
