This chapter walked through the Excel Web Services machinery built into Excel Services. Hopefully, it helped set some expectations about the platform. The platform is designed to facilitate distributed computing. Distributed computing holds tremendous promise, especially as applications evolve toward an SOA.
For the .NET developer, the role has morphed into one of support and extensibility. The .NET developer now needs to be able to write applications that supplement SharePoint functionality.
