The beauty of using a completely integrated, single-chip microcontroller device lies in its reduced size, its increased robustness, and the convenience of having a complete set of peripherals harmoniously preassembled for us, ready for use. Unfortunately, as most embedded-control designers quickly realize, it is the amount of available memory (Flash and RAM) that most often seems to dictate the cost and availability of a product.
