W. Zhang and P.C. Yelick,     Tufts University USA

Abstract:

Our research on tooth regeneration is significant in that it is anticipated to eventually provide effective therapies to replace missing and damaged teeth, and also to guide future research of organ regeneration in general. The identification of appropriate cell sources is essential for tissue regeneration. In this chapter, we discuss strengths and weaknesses of potential cell sources for tooth tissue engineering, including the use of cells of dental origin, and cells derived from non-dental tissues, and discuss current limitations for clinical applications of various cell types for dental tissue engineering applications. ...
