.NET COMPACT FRAMEWORK APPLICATION

There are different versions of .NET Compact Framework: 1.0, 2.0, and 3.5. When developing a Compact 7 OS design from the Platform Builder IDE, .NET CF 3.5 is provided as one of the available catalog items, which you can select and include in the OS design project, to generate a Compact 7 OS run-time image with .NET CF 3.5 as part of the image, to support managed code application.

Required Compact 7 OS Components

You can develop managed code applications using C# or Visual Basic. To support managed code application development from the VS2008 IDE, you need to include .NET CF in the Compact 7 OS run-time image by configuring the OS design project to include the following components from the Platform Builder catalog:

  • .NET Compact Framework 3.5
  • OS Dependencies for .NET Compact Framework 3.5
  • CAB File Installer/Uninstaller

If you develop a headless or console mode managed code application, instead of the preceding components, select and include the following components in the OS design:

  • .NET Compact Framework 3.5 — Headless
  • OS Dependencies for .NET Compact Framework 3.5 — Headless
  • CAB File Installer/Uninstaller

Connectivity to Target Device
