DiskPrep is a Windows CE power toy created to help simplify the process to configure different types of bootable storage with BIOSLoader to launch the Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image. It can also configure the bootable storage to launch an Ethernet bootloader to download an OS run-time image from the Platform Builder development station.

The DiskPrep utility is designed to run on a Windows 7, Vista, or XP desktop or notebook PC. Microsoft released this utility under the Microsoft Public License. The DiskPrep utility is available for download from the following URL:

The DiskPrep power toy is designed to support x86 devices and can work with the following types of storage devices, providing the x86 target device can boot from these storage devices:

  • IDE hard drive
  • IDE flash storage
  • Compact Flash
  • SD memory card
  • Micro-SD memory card
  • USB flash storage
  • SATA hard drive
  • SATA flash storage

You can use the DiskPrep power toy to configure bootable flash storage to launch the Ethernet bootloader and OS run-time image for previous versions of a Windows Embedded Compact device, built with x86 processor.
