8.4. Summary
This chapter has shown how to customize and manipulate SharePoint navigation in various ways, available to individuals serving different roles with respect to a Publishing site. Administrators can control the data passed back to the site map data sources through the providers, site owners can customize the navigation using the Site Navigation Settings page, and developers and designers can customize the actual rendering controls and data sources through markup. Developers can also create custom rendering controls, site map data sources, or providers. However, it is recommended that you look to third-party companies to purchase navigation rendering controls and to rely on the provided rendering controls.
