Chapter 2. MOSS 2007 Overview for Developers

By Eli Robillard

To become a master SharePoint developer, one must understand what SharePoint is, and how it works. "To be" is to be related, so to explain what SharePoint is, this chapter will describe precisely how it is related to other components in the Microsoft stack. The flow of communication among these components describes how SharePoint works. When you understand these things, you have the knowledge both to change the way SharePoint works and to use it as a platform on which to build your own solutions. This chapter describes the architecture of SharePoint, and then moves on to help you build a development environment in which to create SharePoint applications.
