Chapter 12. Administering and Deploying Applications in WebLogic Server

WebLogic Architecture Key Concepts

In this section, we review some of the key concepts associated with the WebLogic Server deployment architecture. Before jumping into the details, we need to define a few terms that will be used throughout the rest of this chapter. In this chapter, the terms server and instance are used to describe a Java Virtual Machine process that is running the WebLogic Server software program. We use the term machine to describe a computer with its own CPU, memory, and secondary storage that is running its own copy of the operating system software.
