18.1. Configuring Your SSAS

Once you have installed the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2007 you need to configure your SSAS instance to enable creation of temporary mining models. Perform the following steps to configure your SSAS:

  1. Click Start and click the Server Configuration utility from All Programs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 DM Add-ins.

  2. Click Next on the welcome screen.

  3. Enter your SSAS instance name in the Server box and click Next to view the Allow Creation of Temporary Mining Models page.

  4. Please make sure the checkbox that enables session mining models is enabled (checked) and click Next.

  5. On the Create Database for Add-in Users page you have the option of creating a new database or using an existing database that can be used by the data mining add-in users for creating temporary and permanent mining models. The wizard connects to your SSAS instance and retrieves the list of databases.

  6. Select the default Create New Database with the database name DMAddinsDB. In the final page of the wizard you can add all the end users who would be using the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-ins for Office 2007, as shown in Figure 18-1. All these users would need to have full database permissions on the chosen database. By default the wizard adds the user running the wizard as database admin of the database.
