Chapter 5. Creating Your First Report

When you first picked up this book, you may have thought you were going to learn all about the intricacies of creating a report. However, at this point, you still have not created your first report. You have learned essential things necessary for creating and deploying your reports, such as setting up your server, planning your report, and getting an overview of the tools you will use to create your reports, but you still haven't created a report. It's finally time to do so.

In this chapter, you will get a solid understanding of creating a very basic report. You will be exposed to the Report Wizard that makes creating simple reports a snap. You will learn about the different data types you can use in your report and will see exactly how to utilize SharePoint data in your report.

The next few chapters will go deeper into the report-creation process, but by the end of this chapter, you will have the necessary knowledge to create your own reports in your own environment.
