Chapter 7. Advanced Reporting Techniques

At this point in the book, you should have a fairly solid understanding of how to create your report environment, the tools you need to create reports, and how to create some reports. You have either learned that in the previous six chapters or have felt comfortable enough with your skills to skip ahead. Either way, you should be fairly comfortable with creating reports using BIDS, accessing at least some basic SQL or SharePoint data as your data backend.

But what happens when you want to go beyond that? What happens if you have business needs that don't necessarily fit within the confines of SSRS out of the box? Well, you develop your own box. You figure out how to make your project work the way you need it to. If you are a developer, you are probably pretty familiar with this type of development.

So it's time to create your own box. This chapter will help you accomplish this goal.
