10.7. Summary

This chapter explored the display and manipulation of SharePoint data on a page using SharePoint Designer, and introduced you to the XSLT Data View Web Part. It also discussed:

  • SharePoint lists and libraries that can be rendered on a page in a number of ways.

  • How to add a Web Part to a page with SharePoint Designer, and place it outside of a Web Part Zone.

  • How SharePoint lists and libraries exposed as data sources can be used by the Data View Web Part.

  • That the XSL transform for a Data View can be inline or in a separate file.

  • How the XPath editor makes it easy to build complicated XML data expressions.

The next chapter explains how to take the Data View to a whole new level by accessing data from outside of the current SharePoint web, and directly editing the XSL transforms.
