6.4. Summary

This chapter gave a brief overview of some of the concepts in CSS. Then you saw how styles are used in SharePoint, and the benefits of using SharePoint Designer to manage and create styles in a web site were discussed. The main takeaways from this chapter are:

  • CSS is a major part of branding SharePoint sites.

  • SharePoint provides you with several out-of-the-box style sheets in which all of the SharePoint styles are defined.

  • Style sheets can be stored either on the web server or within the database (depending on your needs).

  • SharePoint Designer provides you with a variety of task panes and toolbars that allow you to easily discover existing styles and create new ones.

The next chapter focuses exclusively on SharePoint Themes. You'll see why Themes are necessary and how Themes and CSS team together to change the look and feel of SharePoint sites.
