Appendix A. Resources

Enterprise Search is becoming a popular topic in books and in electronic media including newsletters and blogs. Rather than close the book without adding some of the resources we consider valuable in our work with Enterprise Search, we thought we'd include a list of the books, blogs, and sites that we find most useful.

BOOKS

  • Professional Microsoft Search: SharePoint 2007 and Search Server 2008 by Tom Rizzo, Richard Riley, Shane Young (ISBN: 978-0470279335). Our book is meant as a sequel to this 2008 Wrox book, but with a different bent. We focus on more advanced, business-impacting technologies rather than the entry-level products, since they are the ones that bring complexity and attract customization. We also have more business-impact and best practice tips throughout the book, making it useful to marketing professionals and to readers interested in enterprise search in general.

  • Inside the Index and Search Engines: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 by Patrick Tisseghem and Lars Fastrup (ISBN 978-0735625358). This 2007 Microsoft Press book covers some similar topics but is much closer to the information in the product documentation, and covers less advanced technology. Our book should be much more generally useful, as we will provide information about why and when to use search technology and how to apply it, not just how it works.
