Chapter 14. The K2 Designers and Collaborative Process Design

The K2 blackpearl platform allows for collaborative process modeling by changing the paradigm in which processes are designed. Collaborative modeling allows for a "Big Picture" view of a business's processes, allowing end users, business analysts, and developers to work together to address a broad range of business challenges.

This chapter will discuss the various K2 design surfaces, as well as how the designers work together effectively based on the skill set and role of the project team member. This chapter also covers the following topics:

  • The roles involved when a K2 process is designed

  • The designer choices available with K2 blackpearl, including the K2 Designer for Visio, the K2 Web Designer for SharePoint, and the K2 Designer for Visual Studio

  • Collaborating on a process using the various K2 design tools

The Right Tool for the Right Person

People are involved in application and process design; that's common sense. What's interesting is the type of people that can be involved. The K2 platform works process designs declaratively, meaning that the definition of the process is independent of the designer that was used to create it. This allows different design experiences for different types of people with varying technical skills.
