Chapter 5. Host Administration

Chapter 4 gave you a good overview of the role a DotNetNuke administrator has when working with a web portal. This chapter reviews the role of the "Boss" of the web portal, the host.

The host has the main responsibility of controlling the installation of DotNetNuke, the creation of portals, the assignment of administrators, the uploading of skins and modules, and of course all the headaches of all those jobs. Kidding aside, the host is a major player in the DotNetNuke world, and this chapter reviews the features of DotNetNuke that are important to the host.

Defining the Host

The host, or host administrator (the terms are interchangeable), has the distinction of being the SuperUser, and has an account with that name as well. By default the SuperUser Account gets privileges that no other account gets by default. In addition to host account settings, this account has all of the admin settings privileges discussed in the preceding chapter. Also, the host can log in to any portal in your DotNetNuke setup.

The host has responsibilities to make sure that DotNetNuke is running correctly on the web hosting environment. All administrators must communicate with the host if there are any problems with their web sites.

Where to Start?
