The Size and Persistence of UI Customization
Small interface changes can be accomplished by an add-on “on the fly.” Examples of this would be deleting a single menu item, adding a button to a toolbar, or adding an item to the context menu. Larger changes are certainly much more efficient when run from an external UI file. You can create this file offline, store it in a file, and then load it upon demand. The resulting UI file can be permanently bound to a file or to the application in order to create a persistent change in the UI. The UI file can be loaded and unloaded on the fly for a temporary UI change.
