Style Theory

At the risk of being redundant, I shall use Microsoft Word again to illustrate the concept of styles. When you highlight a paragraph of information in your Word document and select Heading 1 from the drop-down listing on the Formatting toolbar, you are applying a paragraph style to that selected paragraph. The paragraph style controls the typeface (the font), the point size, whether it is bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, super- or subscript, black or another color, and more. The paragraph style controls alignment such as left, center, or right justification. It controls the spacing before and after the paragraph and whether the paragraph is enclosed in a box.
