One of the traditional hallmarks of Visio is the ease of creation of connected diagrams: those diagrams that use SmartShape symbols connected by lines. These lines represent the flow and direction of the connections between the symbols and assist the user of the diagram in understanding the intent of the diagram. Some examples of connected diagrams are flowcharts, organizational charts, business process diagrams, process and identification (P&ID) diagrams, workflow diagrams, and basic software design and development diagrams.
