Stencils

Visio Stencils are one of the things that make Visio so unique. The concept of stencils came from old engineering architecture and data processing school assignments. When drawing diagrams, students used to work with green Berol Ellipse templates and Flowchart templates. These templates or “stencils” were a tracing guide for the needed symbols. Each stencil contained numerous symbol outlines, all related in a common subject or theme. Visio forwarded this concept and created Visio Stencils of SmartShape symbols.
