14.3. Summary

In this closing chapter, we have introduced Windows Workflow and the underpinning concepts and architecture. Some concepts are very similar to BizTalk Server, a result of many BizTalk team members helping to design and develop WF.

A key message through this section of the book is how WF provides a workflow foundation for use within your own application rather than a complete enterprise server rivaling BizTalk Server.

We then positioned WF and BizTalk Server by highlighting the key differences that you should consider and explaining that WF can be thought of as enabling workflow within your application rather than between applications through the use of its rich runtime services such as adapters.

Hopefully, this chapter will prove useful when the inevitable question comes up within your organization: "Why should you pay for BizTalk when you have WF available for free?"
