9.4. Summary

This chapter covered the foundations that you should put in place before starting any form of performance testing to ensure that you get the best results possible. Once the foundations are in place, you need to effectively monitor the solution. We've covered the key performance counters to monitor, detailed a few techniques to assist you, and explained in depth how BizTalk throttling works.

We then finished up by discussing a number of common symptoms that are often seen during performance testing. Hopefully, any problems you see during testing are covered in this section.

Performance testing is an absolutely critical part of any BizTalk project. Testing should be performed early and often throughout your development life cycle. Chapter 8 introduced a number of approaches and tools to help with testing, including the BizUnit tool, which automates large parts of your testing process, dramatically increasing productivity and reliability.

The next chapter discusses the topic of low latency and details how latency can be minimized within your solution to meet aggressive low-latency requirements.
