3.2. In-Box Adapters

This section walks you through the main BizTalk adapters that come in the box, to cover what they offer, detail how they work under the covers, and provide a working example for the adapters that are most frequently used and that can cause problems for developers.

There are, of course, additional adapters over and above those that are covered in this chapter that were provided for the first time in BizTalk Server 2006. These are used for what's commonly termed as line-of-business (LOB) integration and are typically used less often than the adapters covered in his chapter. These new adapters are:

  • JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

  • JD Edwards OneWorld XE

  • ODBC Adapter for Oracle Database

  • PeopleSoft

  • SAP

  • Siebel eBusiness Applications

  • TIBO Enterprise Message Service

  • TIBCO Rendezvous

In addition, BizTalk Server 2006 also now includes Microsoft Host Integration Server 2006 (HIS), which provides BizTalk Adapters for Host System 2006 that leverage technologies supplied as part of HIS 2006.

BizTalk Adapters for Host System 2006 includes a number of additional adapters that you use within your solutions. See the HIS documentation for full details on the adapters and their limitations. For reference, they are:

  • The Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Host Application provides access to IBM Mainframes (CICS and IMS) or midrange iSeries (AS/400) server programs.

  • The Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for DB2 provides access to IBM Mainframe DB2 for Z/OS, IBM midrange DB2/400, and IBM DB2 Universal Database ...
