INTERLUDE: PREVIS AND RELATED DATA

Previs entered the film production world through visual effects in the early Nineties. The idea was to leverage the same high-end computer graphics hardware and software that was being used to create ground-breaking visual effects in post-production, but to harness that power in the early stages of pre-production as a design and planning tool. Looking at low resolution models and simple animation, the film-makers could engage in an iterative design process, testing ideas, seeing what worked and what didn’t, all long before the painstaking work of visual effects had even begun.
