Uneven Buffer Configurations—No Striking Pattern

Having set the scene, now let’s take a look at what happens when we unbalance the lines in the patterns above. The most noteworthy result following the simulation experiments was that none of these five general patterns was noticeably better or worse than any of the others in broad terms, but there were particular configurations within the five general patterns that showed substantial improvements of performance either in idle time or in average buffer levels when compared to the balanced buffer line.
