Planning the Product Manufacturing Facility

This chapter provided a brief overview of the facilities planning procedure and was not intended to replace the details a text on this subject would cover. We covered the very basic details of facilities planning: determining the location of the facility and developing the layout of the facility. Only those techniques that are widely used were discussed. Other aspects of facilities planning, such as the design of material handling systems, design of warehouses, and trade-offs between facilities layout and material handling systems, have been skipped.
