Good dialog editing is transparent. The goal is to change a performance or make an interview more concise, but never to sound “edited.”

If you want to edit moving pictures of people doing things, you have to stay aware of how people move in real life. The same thing is true for their voices. You can be a much better dialog editor if you know how people combine sounds to form words.
