Today’s cameras give you great pictures for the money, but that doesn’t mean they’ll give you great sound. Most full-size cameras—even the $80,000 ones used for features—don’t deliver feature-film sound quality.

You can get broadcast- or Web-quality recordings in most mid-size or larger cameras … if you set them up properly.

It’s even possible to get adequate dialog recordings in some DSLRs. But you have to be very careful … there isn’t much margin for error.

But if you want quality tracks that’ll sound great in any situation, and that’ll give you lots of flexibility for processing ...
