PLANNING AND PRE-PRO

 

When I was a kid, some friends and I decided to build a playhouse in one of our backyards. Since my father was an accomplished carpenter and had a successful business building new homes, I figured we’d have an easy time obtaining the necessary materials.

Dad asked what we’d need.

“Well, a couple of pieces of plywood and some two-by-fours, and maybe some shingles for the roof. Oh, and red paint. What do you think, Dad?”

“I think you forgot the paper and tape.”

I wasn’t figuring on any fancy flooring that would require rosin paper, fiber house-wrap paper hadn’t been invented, and I knew nails would hold it together better than duct tape. Then he handed me a tape measure and some graph paper.
