These three chapters are the technical stuff: How sound exists, what happens when it gets to your brain, how it can be turned into electronic signals, and how those signals can be carried over wires. It’s the foundation for everything else in this book.

I’ve avoided complex math. If you made it through grade school, you’ll be able to understand these concepts. I’ve also used visual analogies as much as possible … my thinking is that if you’re making films, your visual sense is probably fairly sharp. So we’ll let it help you learn about sound.

But these chapters are technical, and I don’t want anybody fainting or running from the room.
