Chapter 7. INVOKING PROCMAIL

There are many “normal” ways to start Procmail. Most Linux distributions, for example, are pre-configured to use Procmail as a mail delivery agent by default – if this is the case then you need do nothing to invoke Procmail for new emails … it will just happen anyway.

On other systems the system administrator can usually reconfigure the mail system to use Procmail automatically to deliver mail to all users, as explained below.

If your system administrator does not wish to invoke Procmail automatically individual users can usually set up their accounts to invoke Procmail automatically.
